The Most Incredible Birth Ever!

Captain Bates and wife Anna had been like any newlyweds. They wanted to have a family, but so far this desire had brought them only sadness instead of joy. The Captain and his wife had already lost their first child at birth so this baby meant even more, but tragedy repeated itself a second time. On January 19th 1879 the most amazing baby on record was born, but 3 days of difficult labor proved to be too much. The baby’s wide shoulders had almost prevented him from coming out of the birth canel. Now exhausted, Baby Bates died only 11 hours after birth.

Science studied baby Bates. It was the largest and heaviest baby ever born, (see Guinness Human Body, Extreme Bodies) but what made this birth even more incredible is that the parents were both just under 8 feet tall. Giants having a giant baby, nothing like this has ever been recorded since. And just how big was this giant baby? Baby Bates weighed in at a whopping 23 lbs 12 oz., was 30” long and had a head circumference of 19 inches.
Our new book Giants Angus McAskill and Anna Swan (Bates) shares the stories of two remarkable giants from the 1800’s. The pictures and stories are so compelling that even computer gamers will be satisfied with a book again. This along with our other 4 giant books makes for an entertaining study into our ancient past. Anna and Angus are remnants of what we were…once.
